Running out of spam
I’m slowly running out of spam to report from my own sites and logs. As the spammers figure out what I do, slowly the source is trickling to a stop. And of course, a well cleaned blog doesn’t attract much in the first place.
So…
I wonder if there’s someone out there who’d appreciate some help in cleaning a spam infested blog. The catch is that I’ll need access to the raw logs. There are ways to do that without me getting access to cpanel or similar. I know how to set it up on a cpanel host. If you’ve got another setup, you’ll have to figure out how to give me access to the logs.
So, any takers? I’d appreciate it if you sent offers by e-mail. You’ll find my e-mail address on the About Me page. I don’t want to tip any spammers reading my feeds off exactly which blog I’ve got access to.
It really sucks when the spammers avoid you if you want them to hit you. Put up a new blog and don’t associate it with your Spam Huntress/Ann identity. Just post some random junk there like what your cat did today and whether it rained. Use nofollow on all link comments and don’t clean them. Spammers will be flocking to your site. You could even put in some fake spam to get things started. Spammers are lazy, its easiest to find places to spam when there is existing spam. At chongqed we have several wiki pages that are there just for the purpose of attracting more spammers. I am sure eventually some catch on, but there are plenty of idiots out there that keep comming back.
Glee!!! I got my first trackback spam! To THIS post!
And it’s auto-moderated, of course. Probably because of WP’s settings.
Eh, no, it was another post. I jumped the gun in my elation…
And of course, a well cleaned blog doesn’t attract much in the first place.
I don’t know, my Spam Karma stats say otherwise. I tend to see spam runs with hundreds of comments several times a month. Very few of them actually make it online, and I pull those as soon as I see them, but they keep trying.
