Linkdump

I sometimes run across links that I’d like to show you guys, but don’t necessarily want to make a whole post about them. So, here’s the contents from my linkdump file for the last few days:

REFERRER SPAM: Timur Tasbulatov / emedia-omni.com / gay-ethnic-list.com

Highlights: The webhost ( Layered Technologies) does not consider referrer spam abusive. Bad webhost.

Bad Behavior

Highlights: PHP scripts that block spambots by analyzing their HTTP headers and comparing to known spambots.

Yahoo tops phishing statistics

Highlights: Phishing sites stay operational longer on Yahoo, and it’s hard to figure out how to report phishing and select other types of abuse on Yahoo (I tried and gave up myself).

Yahoo tops phishing statistics - In the last few years, Yahoo has done many things to help spammers and scammers. Previously you could easily block anyone, but not any more. Yahoo also tries to load ActiveX controls on every mail page, the same exact controls used to give you a virus.

Another thing I’ve noticed about Yahoo is their unwillingness to stop spam–search for “pink contract” in any search engine. You’ll get the shock of your life when you see what spammers and ISP’s are doing together.

alh webmaster talks about Yahoo as being unwilling to help stop spammers and scammers.

I am not surprised. Yahoo is not the only one. The IANA Organization is another one.

Have you ever tried to send abuse information to the IANA Organization? I have tried to notify them when their “reserved IPs” were the root IPs for some SPAMs I had received. Their email for reporting abuse issues is invalid and the phone number listed isn’t any good either. It is almost like they are now Ghosts and hiding from the public.

The only email that worked was to the webmaster and he didn’t care.

IANA addresses are addresses that aren’t in use on the net. Those addresses are OK to use on internal nets, but not on the internet. IANA does not provide address space nor connectivity. So sending abuse reports to IANA is totally beside the point. It’s not their responsibility nor their problem. You either misread the headers, or someone forged the IP address.

You need to read some theory on TCP/IP, I believe…

I cannot attest to IANA’s current ativity, however, some 5-6 years ago they were the source of many spams and sites were operating under some umbrella.

Think this is not bad enough, they were scammers, theft of service, and liars. I lived not 4 blocks from their published “suite” which may have actually been a front in the Oakwood apartments.

The theft of service was them sending data through my computer to other sites. I was on a dial up to edu site which they would probe for open ports, find them, send data through that port and out another to other addresses. This got it off their computer and made me responsible for delivery though didn’t know this at first. I would see activity which included lots of hard drive in and out when there should be none. I installed a trap which would display in real time who and what activity when online and caught them red handed. When confronted in email and in voice with someone who identified himself as the director (heavy British) they completelely denied everything yet the data continued to flow through my computer. I saved enough to fill up 7, 1.44mb floppy disks, advised them I had an appointment with the FBI White Collar Squad on Wilsher Blvd and delivered same to the FBI. FBI made copies and I still have the originals plus backup tapes, within 2 days they were gone, the spams stopped.

Self appointed pompous jerks is how I best would describe them, one time some high school kid answered the phone indicating he was the webmaster.

I wouldn’t trust IANA to take out my garbage and everytime I see them making proposals to the FCC that are not in the public interest I would oppose them. That’s my 2ยข.
