Buckwheat pillows promotion

I mentioned wanting to replace my buckwheat pillow in a recent post.

Would you believe I found TWO comments in the moderation queue directing me to sites where I could order them?

One might have been a coincidence - a fan of them tipping me of a site. But two? Nah.

And my little sweep of the logs confirmed my suspicion. Two live people searched blogger and Google for mentions of buckwheat pillows and then left comments.

I can’t make up my mind if I think it’s downright spam or smart marketing. I won’t get them blacklisted, but since this is a spam hunting blog, I won’t approve their posts either.

Now, let’s see what happens after this post has been sitting there for a while. Any promoter stupid enough to hawk buckwheat pillows with comments on this post might be in for a public flogging, at least…

And as for how helpful they were: I’m not looking for a supplier anywhere but Norway, so it’s not helpful to me…

    Hi Ann

    Well I was shocked!
We provide Buckwheat Pillows to alsorts of people so when we were introduced to ‘blogging’ we naturally did a search for our product. We must have come up with you somewhere as, in response for your comments about finding a buckwheat pillow we helpfully pointed out our site.
The question is… was that wrong?
We thought we were being helpful in offering a solution to a stated problem and not as you accuse ’spamming’.
We were quite upset that in trying to help someone discover our services and slove a problem we were commiting some odd act of ‘bolg treason’?
So sorry if you were offended, we intended no harm, just put it down to our inexperience with blogger and out pride in our products.

Moderated: Removed site name and link. Not because there’s something wrong with the post, but just on principle.

I’ve replied to Paul privately. As I was writing to him, I thought, hey, this is actually a new “category”. Commerical comments.

Not spam the way we usually see it. The comments are probably hand written and perhaps even custom written for each time he finds something to comment on.

    Interesting proposition, actually.
