Got an infected machine?

If you think you may have a trojan on your system, or lots of popups or lots of adware, you can check out this forum:

Castlecop HijackThis forum

HijackThis is a tool that checks what processes your computer is running, and what your browser is bogged down with. Do NOT delete stuff with HijackThis on your own, unless you’re a professional at IT-security! And even then, I know a few IT-consultants who wouldn’t do it on their own… But HijackThis is a wonderful tool for others to help you clean your computer.

Before I would mess with HijackThis, I would try to remove things with Spybot, AdAware, and (if you are willing to pay) Spyware Sweeper. I ran into a really nasty one not too long ago that only HijackThis and Spyware Sweeper could find. Manually removing it was not working, it just kept comming back. But when they recommended Spyware sweeper I bought it and have been happy with the quality.

I’m sure you’re right in general, Joe. But what program can nix the trojan that keeps up the denial of service attack against my site? I might be nixed by anything that removes DollarRevenue related trojans, though.

But the particular trojan with code against my site wasn’t distributed that widely - or so it appears to me. Sure, there are LOTS of machines that are infected. But they appear to do burst DDOS’ing, then go dormant. Then maybe there’s another burst a few days later.

I would suspect the trojan attacking your site isn’t purely original. Scanners may already be able to detect it. Even if a scanner can’t remove malware, it may detect and block the unusual activity. The problem is, many of those who have infections likely aren’t going to do anything about it until their machine is so unusable they are forced to.
