Trustrank by Yahoo

Yahoo has announced something they hope will counter webspam:

Yahoo!’s Trustrank Approach To The Spam Problem

How about some of you smart guys poke some holes in it?

I’ve got one: Expired domains. There’s already a rush on them, and with this, it might get even worse.

Not only expired domains, rented subdirectories will be even more important under this plan. I would hope they have some plan to deal with expired domains, though it will be difficult. The subdirectory renting though will be a problem if the scores are made up of the entire site. Possibly they could scan for drastic topical changes between subdirectories, but that isn’t going to be a good solution. Spammers could just make their text fit in better and many sites separate different somewhat related content by directories.

I suspect it really isn’t that much different from what Google is already doing with PageRank though. The last documentation on what makes up PageRank is many years old, TrustRank is different from that, but PageRank certainly has advanced a lot since then and possibly already includes much of what Yahoo has planned.
