My own sites probably aren't what you consider large websites, but I spend at least 1-2 hours per day combatting spammers with their attempted comment spams, referral spams, trackback spams, spamming all of my forms. Each of my sites, one of which is a weblog site, has a Google PageRank of 7 and they each get a fair amount of traffic, some more than others. I write about spam occassionally, which is also when I get even more spammers, which I'm sure doesn't surprise you. ;-)

The time I spend is used researching these creeps and reporting whoever I can, adding blocking rules to my .htaccess files and a weblog blacklist plugin, developing alternative ways of preventing them from accessing my sites at all, reading sites like yours and others to find out the latest, and related. It's ridiculous.

My efforts are helping tremendously, especially the latest approach I devised with my online forms (I'm not going to write about it publicly, but I'll be glad to email you privately about it if you're interested, but I don't want this published online).

I'm also so sick of the time I'm spending doing all this. It's crazy. I closed all but the latest weblog comment forms and trackbacks due to the darn spammers, which I didn't want to do. But I'm tired of the nonsense.

I greatly appreciate your site, your wiki, and the links here, as they've all been a tremendous help. I appreciate your efforts and others who are working hard to combat this out-of-control spam problem.
