Ha! I opened a new gmail account and by the time I finished the setup of the Settings I've already had spam in my Inbox! [mind you I haven't even used English word]
So much for Google "security".
But, I have to admit it happened Only once!

On the other hand gmail was excellent "mailwasher" when the "Red Code"(?) spamsviruses hit in April 2005 and we were getting emails with virus attachements in the rate of over 200/hr or so... I was feeling like I am standing under the Niagara Falls of spams

To add to the fire, I setup a personal gmail account not long ago which lay dormant for 3-4 months, by that time I'd accumulated over 150 spam messages, astonishing given that my name is not exactly common!

Do you have a googlepages website? This indicates that your email exists. When Googlepages came out I tested it and now I have a website up which I can't get rid of and I'm pretty sure spammers trawl the googlepages sites to get legit emails. Haven't really looked into this much, but do you know if one can remove your Googlepages site?

Most of my spam is sent to me directly which is really irritating. I'm tempted to get a new gmail account, even though my current one is my name... Does anyone know a good way of getting out of a spammers database and as such slowly decreasing the received amount of spam?

Yes i have noticed a marked increase in spam recently. Both email and guestbook/forum spam. I woke up yesterday and had 187 emails of which 183 were spam (thank you Spamihilator). Given that email spam and a lot of forum spam is done via botnets why don't ISPs do more? When Code red was out ISPs were closing peoples accounts if they were infected and sending them an anti virus in the post so why not do the same here? All they have to do is keep an eye on how much SMTP traffic is coming from their users.

Yeah, I've seen a rise in my gmail account spam. Only mine isn't advertised anywhere and I only use it to send private personal emails to a few of my friends.
I had about 20 from the past couple of days, all seem to be similar types of emails, offering me an assortment of drugs and help with organs I don't have ;-)
