To MeanderingMan:

1. No, this is large scale. They're not directing this against me specifically. Just check for those IP numbers on other wikis, and you'll see this is all over.

2. But aren't those changes a bit too small and hard to watch for?

I wonder if it's a test of new software?

I can think of two things, neither particularly convincing:

1. It might just be "ankle-tapping" as a way of antagonizing you. I've found that a lot of spammers are quite immature and might find that sort of thing funny. Like toilet-papering your car or short-sheeting your bed (but I can't imagine a spammer having that much energy to get out of the chair to do either of those).

2. It could be a test to see how closely-watched your wiki is. They want to make progressively larger changes to see how much change they can get away with before having their changes reverted. Once they find the threshhold, they can change the wiki minimally to add their links and spam.

Maybe the spammer got irritated by searching for keywords on searchengines and found you're wiki-pages, the same as other people could do. If this was the case, only a few changes in the pages could undo this related to the words.

I suppose by removing the + it would make Google searches of the number less easy to find. Also, it would make the number ambiguous as to what country it is in because the reader would not know for sure if the country code was added or not.

Very strange. But then again, who understands spammers?
