OT: We’re sorry, this video is no longer available
New: Another issue is plagueing users of Youtube these days - videos just stop after about 2 seconds. See another post on that problem.
I came across this Youtube problem a few days ago. Videos embedded in a Norwegian online newspaper didn’t work. Although the preview photo was still there, when I clicked on the video to start it, I got the message:
We’re sorry, this video is no longer available
But when I clicked on “menu”, I got the URL for the Youtube page for that video, and when I went there, the video worked.
And today, the embedded video works again - in that same online page!
A video I found today on a Myspace profile didn’t work, yet when I found the link on the Youtube page for pages linking to the video, I found that it DID work when embedded - on Facebook!
This problem has been reported at least since late December. And some have correctly noted that there are Youtube users who elect to not allow embedding of their videos, or if the video is set to private. But none of these videos had those settings enabled.
So something’s wrong over at Youtube. And since I haven’t found any explanation for it, I’m opening up the floor for suggestions, speculation and maybe downright solving this?

It’s a bug at YouTube, probably caused by the merger of YouTube and Google Video. They know about it and are presumably working on it.

Oh the joys of bugs! It is weird how one way you can’t see something but you’re able to find another way. I recently noticed that to get to Tripod you have to type the www because it won’t show up otherwise. Well hopefully YouTube will fix it quick since that’s a busy place.

This happens on IGoogle too, I reported it to them 3 weeks ago. Thought it was just the Computer at work that does not allow Flash and most Internet Video sites.

This happens if you leave the page open for more than 15 minutes. Hit refresh on the page and the video will work. Dumb, huh?

Same here. I went to task bar in bottom right of screen, turned off Google Web Accelerator. Then hit the refresh button for the web page that previously wouldn’t show the YouTube video. PRESTO! Works fine!
E.K.

Yes, L!
That really saved the problem! How come you figured it out?
I just uninstalled GWA because there are some videos really worth watching.
One of them is: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qnDl9a6FqSA&feature=related .
A jazzy song sung by Lhasa. But beware, you will too cry!
Thank you very much for helping us all!
Bye and Take care!

Turning off Google Web Accelerator worked for me, too!!! THANKS!!!! (I guess I won’t try to understand why a google product (web accelerator) interferes with a google product (you tube))…..

&fmt=18 attached to the end of the youtube link

I think its a coding bug in one of the dozen scripts that Youtube sends to the browser. It seems to be a problem with IE more than other browsers.
I use Maxthon (IE clone) and it has this error but when I shoot up Firefox browser I don’t have the same problem.
&fmt=18 adding this to IE browser fixes the problem for me.

I have a desktop pc where I can play maybe one in 20 videos. Those same videos that don’t play on the desktop work on my laptop. ??? Desktop uses Windows Vista, laptop uses windows xp… Both using IE.

Thanks for that cool tip Peg. It’s spooky how i couldn’t play most vids on youtube for the past many months could be solved by putting some letters at the end? I hope it will keep on working.
